STEPHENS FIVE-STEP PROCESS

Stephens & Partners has developed a unique, proactive and disciplined approach to assist corporate and private equity clients in generating proprietary non-auction acquisition opportunities. Through the Stephens Five-Step Process, we help our clients define/refine their acquisition strategy, thoroughly research and strategically map all potential acquisition targets, proactively approach the most desirable targets, and assist with valuation, due diligence and other client needs.  

Step One  -   Strategy

Formulate and/or validate the growth strategy and acquisition criteria. Our in-depth research and past experience allow us to quickly and realistically evaluate our client's growth objectives before entering into a search for new acquisition opportunities.

Step Two  -   Research

Identify and database the universe of potential acquisition targets.  After performing an in-depth analysis of the target business segment, Stephens & Partners develops a comprehensive master database of the target universe, capturing critical industry and company specific data.  Even within markets in which our client currently competes, Stephens is typically able to uncover previously unidentified and highly attractive acquisition targets.

Step Three - Target

Profile and prioritize the list of most desirable targets.  We undertake a comprehensive and thorough research and interview process to uncover information that is not publicly available in order to provide strategic insight on the target, its products, customers and competitive position. The Stephens Process of "target mapping" provides a unique visual aid that assists the client in an evaluation of current market position and often results in an expansion of the universe of attractive acquisition targets. Step Four  - Approach

Proactively approach selected targets.  Stephens & Partners works with the client to develop a customized approach letter that establishes the client as the principal and speaks to the strategic industry issues that are most relevant and important to company owners.  The reaction of most companies to an approach from Stephens & Partners is dramatically different that the typical response to an approach from other intermediaries or directly from the client.

Step Five  -  Execute

Assist in negotiating and executing the transaction.  The non-threatening relationship that Stephens & Partners develops with the seller through our search process also provides tremendous benefits during business negotiations.
